James H. Hallman
Founder
THE HALLMAN COMPANY
James Hallman’s retail career began in the mid 1950’s when he “guarded” the Coca Cola
machine and the candy jars in his grandfather’s country general store.
He went on to a career that has spanned numerous types of retailing, from mass
merchants to better specialty stores catering to customers in the upper 5% of income in the U.S. Initially
working for various regional chain stores headquartered in the Southeast and Midwestern U.S., he has been a
salesperson, store manager, regional operations manager, buyer, and general merchandise manager. As an
entrepreneur, he has owned and operated his own stores, a multi-unit kiosk operation, a marketing company, an
online information publishing and sales business, and has brokered business sales and packaged small business
loan applications.
In 1989, he began consulting with owners of specialty stores, both single and
multi-unit operations as a retail merchandising analyst with a national retail consulting company. His
entrepreneurial instincts soon motivated him to leave and seek more independence, as well as a better
way to serve his clients. Today, through The Hallman Company, he provides inventory planning, sales
forecasting with pre-calculated open to buy, retail sales training processes, and consultation on various
business methodology that may affect profitable growth possibilities. The Hallman Company is currently
serving retail clients in industries including mens and womens fashion, shoes, jewelry, sporting goods, and
gifts. Clients are based throughout the United States and meet with him monthly in person or by phone and the
internet.
